Our Story
How Tenang Chambers came to be
Tenang Chambers was established with a particular focus: the area of pension law as it affects individuals in Malaysia — specifically those dealing with disability-related applications, disputes over entitlement, and the often-confusing matter of what is actually recorded in their pension accounts.
The practice began from an observation that pension matters tend to arrive at a difficult time. The people who need help with a disability pension application are, by definition, dealing with health circumstances that take priority. The paperwork they face is not designed with their situation in mind. A legal practice that works in this area has to adjust itself accordingly — not the other way around.
This is reflected in how we work: meetings arranged at your location if that reduces burden; written assessments before any matter is filed; clear communication at each stage about where things stand and what the options are. The name Tenang — meaning calm in Malay — reflects the manner in which we think this kind of work should be conducted.
The chambers is based in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, and serves clients across Malaysia. Our work is specific: pension applications, tribunal representation, and account reconciliation. We do not take on matters outside this scope.

How We Work
Professional standards we maintain

All counsel are registered members of the Malaysian Bar, holding valid practising certificates under the Legal Profession Act 1976.
Client Confidentiality
All client communications and documents are held in strict confidence. Information is not shared outside the matter without explicit instruction.
Written Engagement Terms
Scope, fees, and expectations are set out in writing before work begins. No variation is made without discussion and written confirmation.
Independent Assessment
Merits of each matter are assessed independently. We provide honest views on prospects, including where the matter may not be worth pursuing.
Data Protection Compliance
Client data is handled in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA). Retention is limited to what the matter requires.
Accessible Communication
Updates are provided in plain language, in the manner and frequency the client prefers — without jargon and without making you chase for news.
Pension law in Malaysia — what it involves
Pension entitlement in Malaysia operates under a framework that involves several bodies — including the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), the Public Service Department (JPA) pension scheme, and the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO). Each has its own rules, timelines, and review processes. When a matter goes wrong — a disability claim is rejected, a calculation appears incorrect, or records held by the authority do not match employment history — the process of addressing it requires both legal knowledge and practical patience.
Tenang Chambers handles this kind of work for individuals. We do not represent employers, scheme administrators, or government bodies. Our work is entirely on the client side: preparing the application or the submissions, attending the hearing, reviewing the records. The specificity of this focus means that the knowledge applied to your matter is current and relevant to the precise area you are dealing with.
Petaling Jaya and the wider Klang Valley have a substantial working population with long employment histories spread across multiple employers and contribution periods. Inconsistencies in pension records are not uncommon — particularly where employment spanned the private and public sectors, or where periods of leave or contract work affected contribution patterns. The reconciliation review service exists precisely for these situations.
